About Us
Dr Tony Rubin had the idea to set up a formal group of anaesthetists in 1982. Two of the original members are still working within the group The aim was to provide a better anaesthetic service to surgeons and thus indirectly to their patients. It enabled the work to be efficiently covered even when individual members were absent on annual or professional leave. It meant that surgeons did not have to search for and employ strange anaesthetists but could be provided with someone they knew and respected. Group Anaesthetic Services was based at 126 Harley Street a house that was owned at the time by two orthopaedic surgeons and a general physician. Later on a further four anaesthetists were invited to join the Group, before in 2000 the group enlarged dramatically and assumed the name "Group Anaesthetic Services" (GAS). The aims of the group are unchanged but by increasing dramatically the number of anaesthetists, we are able to offer expert cover for surgical work in all the various specialties. We have anaesthetists with particular interest in obstetrics, including pain relief in labour, "mobile epidurals", and anaesthesia for Caesarean delivery. We also have anaesthetists specially trained in the management of chronic pain problems and suitable referrals of suitable patients would be welcomed. In addition we have two specialist intensivists who cover some of the central London hospitals, and who can provide a high quality intensive therapy service on demand. |
